• Technology programs that have been under way since 1975 have yielded significant progress and have led to the conclusion that the Prop-Fan is a viable propulsion system. There is additional proving of technology ongoing. The full scale test programs will demonstrate that the objectives for Prop-Fan can be achieved. Numerous engine and airframe manufacturer studies have shown significant fuel burn and operating cost advantages for Prop-Fan propulsion. Both Boeing and Douglas have recognized the benefits of Prop-Fan propulsion and have targeted this propulsion system for their new 7J7 and MD91X aircraft, respectively.
