• The combat aircraft requirement is for high thrust/weight ratio in combat, but low fuel consumption while patrolling to minimise aircraft size. This is achieved with high flame temperatures, medium bypass ratio, high overall pressure ratio and of course good component efficiencies. This paper concerns itself with the interaction of design and manufacturing technology in achieving high engine and component efficiency which demands 3D aerodynamic design and manufacturing capability with high precision.
