• A new 45MW gas turbine type 8 was designed, manufactured, and tested. The overall concept of the design has been kept in the tradition of previous machines and many components proven by long time experience were used. Major improvements have been introduced in the thermodynamic cycle parameters and the aerodynamic design. All new components were thoroughly investigated using advanced analytical methods and subjected to aerodynamic and wherever necessary to mechanical tests. The compressor and turbine bladings were tested on two scaled-down models which allowed detailed aerodynamic investigation. A complete new power station was set up to test the new gas turbine. The turbine was equipped with sophisticated instruments, like strain gauges, telemetric signal transmitters mounted on the rotor, and lasers (to observe the vibratory behaviour of blades). Temperatures were determined by numerous thermocouples and with a pyrometer measuring the temperatures of each first stage rotor blade. A comparison of anticipated values and results showed good agreement.
