Dual fuel gas turbine generator sets are being installed in a high-storied office building under construction in Tokyo. In order to increase the overall thermal efficiency, they are coupled to waste heat boilers for combined heat and power (CHP) operation. Gas fuel will be used for normal service and liquid fuel will be used in emergencies such as utility power failure. The power system of this domestic power generation is independent of the local utility grid. However, at the time of start and stop of this system, parallel operation with utility power will be performed so that electric power system will be switched over without interruption of service. This is the first CHP plant using dual fuel gas turbines for non-industrial use in Japan.
