Several types of small gas turbine engines are under development by Nagoya aircraft works of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. A common control system is preferable for those small engines (below 1000HP), considering cost, manufacturing and field maintenance. Recent micro processor technology made it possible to design a universal digital control unit for many applications. And recent stepping motor technology made the system more simple and cheaper. This report presents the study and current development status of our low cost digital control system for small gas turbine engines. The system consists of a processing unit, a stepping motor valve, sensing devices and some ON/OFF units. It is demonstrated that the system succeeded as the fuel control unit of the small jet engine and the very low power gas turbine engine.
