• In many areas of the world, heavy oils are processed to yield combustion turbine fuels which are less expensive and equally reliable alternatives to the use of petroleum distillates. Operating characteristics and performance of three electrostatic fuel treatment systems recently installed in Thailand and in Taiwan are presented and are compared with those from similar equipment previously installed in North America, Europe and North Africa. Specific problems encountered during commissioning of such equipment are reviewed and the solution to these problems are noted. Particular attention is directed to the relevant economics, including relative fuel costs.
