Recent progress on welding in bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) has been reviewed. The BMGs have been successfully welded together by rapid heating and cooling processes such as pulse-current, electron-beam and friction methods. Successful welding of the pulse-current,electron-beam methods was due to the high glass forming ability of the BMGs and the high concentration of welding energy in these methods. In contrast, the friction welding was successful due to the thermal stability and superplasticity of the supercooled liquid state of the BMGs. The successful welding is promising for the future development of BMGs as engineering materials.
