The research topics of the non-oxide ceramics in National Institute for Materials Science were introduced. In the refractory silicon nitride, the high-temperature mechanical characteristic was improved by control the grain boundary phase. Superplastic forming became possible by refining the microstructure. The structural ceramics with new function is developing by the viewpoint of grain boundary and microstructure control.
