Today I am going to talk mainly about 3-dimensional calculations in turbomachinery, because I think they are most interesting type of calculation. I want to start off talking a little bit about flow calculations in general. Firstly I will review the flow models that are used, and then a general review of the numerical methods that are used in turbomachinery calculations. The idea is to explain which methods are suitble for extension to fully 3-dimensional flow and which are not. Then I will give a brief description of the 3-dimensional Euler solutions, which I am mainly concerned with, but I do not want to spend much time talking about equations. I know it is very difficult to follow equations during a lecture, so this will be a brief description of the method, followed by many examples of the use of 3-dimensional calculations for different types of turbomachinery. Then I want to go on and explain recent developments of 3-dimensional viscous calculations. I have seen some excellent calculations here in Japan, and I am sure my work is not so advanced as yours in this respect. But I will show some examples of this, and then I want to finish by talking a bit about the use of the 3-dimensional calculation to study blade stacking. As many of you know 3-dimensional blade stacking is a very active research area at the moment, significant improvements in performance hve been made through stacking, but we do not really understand why. That is what I feel, so I want to discuss the subject briefly, and then draw some more general conclusions.
