In recent years, auto motive products are required to be compact, light weight, high performance and low cost. Therefore, the combination of product components are limited to achive above requirements. For such market requirements, new types of clutch units are needed. The torque diode using roller engagement has been developed as a device element that controlled the rotation of power transmission between the input shaft and the output shaft. This article describes the operating principles and functional characteristics of these new torque diodes.
