Optical flow detection based on the gradient equation requires no searching procedure, and hence, computational cost of it is lower than that of the block matching method. However, the gradient equation corresponds to the first order approximated constraint concerning image intensity invariance before and after object moving, and detected optical flow has generally a large amount of error because of high order components neglected in the gradient equation. As a result, a lot of inventions have been examined. Although, in a typical study, constraints on the 2nd order differentials are used with the gradient equation, significant improvement of accuracy has not been reported. Therefore, in this study, we aim to eliminate such the high order influence causing failure of the gradient equation instead of using it positively.
