This paper describes the recent development of sugar industry in Indonesia. As a case study, a factory with capacity of 12,000 ton cane-crushed per day (TCD) in Lampung province was evaluated. Based on material flow analysis, it is found that for a 12,000 TCD factory, could produce 1,020 tons of sugar, molasses 4-5% cane, bagasse 3,980 tons as by product, and dispose 4,100 tons of waste water. By utilization of biomass residue, the factory has surplus of energy, and also produce excess bagasse at a rate of 600-800 tons/day which is potential for grid-connected electricity-generating projects.
