In this paper, I will examine the news of "health food" in mass media, especially newspapers. The materials to be analyzed here come from articles published between 1954 and 1999 in the Asahi News that deal with "health food". I will present following theses. Firstly, I analyzed the title of articles contains the term "health food". Consequently, the earliest article was 1972. In addition, when the contents of the article analyzed, it has understood that there are a lot of description of the article concerning the regulations by the country. And since that, there has been the article in almost year. Secondly, I analyzed how description of the articles to be given a negative meaning or a positive meaning to "health food", since description that to be given a negative meaning has understood more than. In addition, some articles have been contents to emphasize negative respect of "health food". These results are able to point out the previous researches of Nomura and Enomoto, which were deal with only the materials that the mass media to be given a positive meaning to "health food", is not appropriate as the analysis of the mass media of "health food" in the modern society. Thirdly, the articles concerning the food that be able to be called "health food", example for a siitake, a tofu, a chlorella and so on, but the title of articles does not contain the term "health food". As the result, when you limit it to the article on the regulations of "Health food", the earliest article was 1968. There has been so no difference the years of the earliest articles compared with the title article contains the term "health food". It has been understood same time to appear of the term "Health food" and of the articles concerning the food that was able to be called "health food" in the newspaper media.
