Based on Galpin's pioneering work on Walworth County and trend studies of the same community by Kolb and others, a previous sociological study of service institutions in Walworth County was undertook. The present paper seeks to follow previous studies of this community since the end of World War II. Four points are examined as follows. First, although Walworth County was primarily rural before the World War, the geographical and social distance between big cities such as Madison, Milwaukee and Chicago has been reduced. Secondly, the concentration of service industries, including health and hotels, is high when compared to the retail trade, construction, and manufacturing. Yet, manufacturing employs a greater number compared to the retail trade and wholesale trade. Thirdly, the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater has advanced in the past forty years, prompting 'the Whitewater revolution'. Fourthly, Kikkoman Food, Inc. was selected as a good sample of the manufacturing industry. It employs one hundred forty five, and contributes not only to the University and technical college, but it assists financially to high school students. As a whole, Walworth County is no longer an isolated community. As it grows, it continues to take a greater role as a part of the wider community.
