In the operation of a container freight station (CFS), it is recently pointed out that a carrier's paying for cargo securing has been increased. Data on containers and their cargoes stuffed were collected last year from a typical CFS in the port of Kobe. This paper describes some statistical aspects of the data concerning cargo securing cost. This study has revealed that-(1) FCL, irregular shaped or over dimension cargoes, which are different from the ordinal CFS (or LCL) cargoes, have been loaded in container vessels via CFS (2) and compel steamship companies to pay much for cargo securing in CFS.
