The report proposes and theoretically analyses the performance of two-dimensional (2-D) wavelength-hopping/time-spreading (WH/TS) optical code-division multiplexing (OCDM) systems using heterodyne detection receiver and overlapping pulse-position modulation (OPPM) signaling. Major noises, including receiver's noise and optical beating interference (OBI) are considered. The proposed system's performance is compared to the case when pulse-position modulation (PPM) scheme is used. It is seen that the proposed system offers significant improvement when the same code set is used, both in the number of users and receiver's sensitivity.
