In Chinese, the syntax of giving has enjoyed the continuous attention of researchers over the last three decades. A large amount of interesting linguistic phenomenon was excavated, and various explanations were given to them from the various theoretical points of view. However, the author noticed some problems still left to require more detailed examinations and explanations after a minute investigation of the syntax of giving in Modern Standard Chinese (MSC) by using a large electronic corpus. The paper describes and analyzes the syntax of. giving in MSC synchronically from the viewpoint of an interaction of predicate verbs, Gei (給) and constructions. The language data that the paper investigates is MSC used in contemporary novels, and it is not a data of high purity in nature at all. Therefore, the conclusions in the paper are more correct to call them tendencies rather than to call them rules.
