• With globalization and the role played by global languages like English in the newknowledge-economies, many countries are currently undertaking educational reformsinvolving English education, in order to equip their populations to face the challenges ofthe future. Focusing on developments in Malaysia, this paper examines how this postcolonial Southeast Asian nation is responding to the challenges of globalization andnation-building.
