Exotic atoms, or meson-nucleus bound states in more general, are excellent tools for studying chiral dynamics in nuclei, since both the nuclear density and the meson wavefunction are precisely known in these systems. We here discuss pionic hydrogen, deeply-bound pionic atoms, kaonic hydrogen and kaonic helium atoms, with emphasis on experimental details which affect the accuracy of quantitative determination of chiral dynamics in nuclei.
