A new technique is proposed to localize the detected object in crosshole fan scan measurement. In the technique, "apparent impedance" is defined by observed electric field (z component) and the magnetic field (y component). Thanks to its unique property that the apparent impedance is uniquely defined in accordance with the position geometry of the transmitting antenna, receiving antenna and the target object, and the dielectric constant of the medium, one can make use of the apparent impedance as the finger print of the target position and the medium dielectric constant. The performance of the proposed technique was confirmed by real scale FDTD simulations.
