One-hundred-thirty Streptococcus pneumoniae (S. pneumoniae) isolates were recovered from patients in 1986-1994. Twenty-eight (21.5%) had a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) to penicillin G (PCG) of ≥ 0.1 オg/mL but none had ≥ 3.13 オg/mL. Seventeen percent had an MIC to cefotiam of ≥ 0.78 オg/mL. Thirty-two point five percent had an MIC to erythromicine ≥ 0.39 オg/mL. Seventy-three percent had an MIC to minocycline ≥ 0.78 オg/mL. The percentages of the isolates that were relatively resistant to PCG (MICs, 0.1-1.56 オg/mL) were 8% in 1986, 12.5% in 1988, 60% in 1992 and 50% in 1994, respectively. The increasing number of S. pneumoniae isolates resistant to penicillin and other antimicrobials in Yonago area supports the need to monitor for changes in the susceptibilities of antimicrobial agents.
