Three types of calorimetric matching schemes (absolute, relative and percent tristimulus matching) were presented along with a discussion of non-tristimulus matching in RGB triplets. Non-tristimulus matching is the traditional manner in which a variety of CRT monitors receive the same source RGB data calculated by 3D computer graphics and use the data as their own RGB input signals without any calorimetric conversion, which is the simplest form of RGB gamut mapping that ensures one-to-one correspondence among source and device gamuts. It is shown that a calorimetric formulation as tristimulus ratios scheme is applicable to this gamut mapping, provided all the monitors are standardized to have the same set of RGB primaries. Each matching scheme was rewritten as a transformation scheme that can be used to calculate absolute tristimulus schemes for colors to be reproduced on imaging devices. Further, it was examined how these transformation schemes are applied to the process of inter-studio and intra-studio color matching.
