Synthesis, Properties and Structural Characterization of [SmC1 (BHpz_3)_2(Hpz)] (pz=1-pyrazolyl group)

In THE at -78°C, potassium tris(1-pyrazolyl)hydroborate K[BHpz_3] (pz=1-pyrazolyl group) was allowed to react with Sm1C3・6H_2O in a (1/1) molar ratio, and dichloromethane extraction of the reaction mixture yielded white powder of [SmCl(BHpz_3)_2(Hpz)] (1) in a 60.4% yield. ^1H-NMR spectrum of 1 showed only one signal set of pyrazolyl groups for two BHpz_3 ligands. Colorless prismatic crystals of 1 were obtained and single crystal X-ray structural determination was undertaken. Eight-coordinated monomeric structure was confirmed for 1, and square-antiprismatic geometry around samarium was revealed. In addition, the structural determination indicated hydrogen bonding of the acidic proton on the 1-N nitrogen of the coordinated Hpz molecule, with the chlorine atom on samarium.
