The recent Japanese social environment has greatly changed, and the children playing together in a group are not often seen in the society. The children do not gather together after school as they used to do in the past because of the fewer number of children in the family and the increased number of the nuclear families. The children learn the way to interact with others, their interpersonal relationship skills (social skills), through the communication with the other children or adults. However, today children have less chances of communication with others due to their busy schedule, and as a result, children easily tend to be hurt, irritated, provoked by others' words or acts. The authors had focused on class-wide social skills training, not counseling individuals, but counseling children in a whole class. The authors assumed that if children had learned how to be assertive (assertion training), with classmates, they may be able to express their feelings better without showing irritation, aggression, or withdrawal. One class with 33 students (16 males and 17 females) was given assertion training for one (1) month three (3) times, and another class with 33 students (17 males and 16 females) was not given any assertion training. Both classes were given pre-test and post-test using "social skill scale" and "aggression scale" to see if there was any significant effect by the training. Results showed that there was not any significant difference between the two groups in the social skills, but in the control group the scores of the post-test in social skills significantly dropped, while the scores in the experiment group did not show any changes.
