A sliding mode control scheme is proposed to suppress the chaotic response of Duffing's oscillator with unknown forcing function. The excitation is estimated by function approximation with Fourier series. Based on Lyapunov direct method, the adaptive law of the function approximation has been derived. Therefore the sliding mode control can be applied without knowing the bounds of the unknown function. The simulation results are presented to verify the validity of the proposed scheme.
