The effects of the declining birthrate and aging society in recent years can be clearly seen in child welfare institutions, notably in the increasing integration of child and senior care facilities. As a result, the role of the nursery school teacher has expanded to include nursing. Given this social change, the Department of Child Development and Education at Kwassui Women's College requires all first year students to experience working in facilities for senior citizens. Through this experience, in which students spend time with senior citizens both with and without handicap and learn how to support them, students are able to understand human beings from a wider perspective. This is expected to give the student the opportunity to build her own view of both children and handicapped people and how to care for them. This study analyzes data collected by questionnaire from the students. The analysis demonstrates both the effect and significance of the work experience, in particular in the understanding of senior and people with disabilities; the students' ability to construct their own view of children and people with disabilities and how to care for them; the maturation of the students themselves. Furthermore, this study suggests ways forward for the increasing number of four year nursery school teacher training courses.
