B chromosomes (Bs) of Hepatica were found here in roots of H. americana for the first time. The B number differed among the root-tip cells studied, indicating the occurrence of a mitotic non-disjunction. The Bs of the species appeared to be terminal-centromeric, bearing a small satellite similar to that of the Japanese H. nobilis but smaller in size and greater in number per cell. However, no B was found in any roots of H. acutiloba.
