八代高専における英語授業改善の試み : 音読を中心とした授業展開

This paper shows how we are trying to help students improve their English communication skills through reading aloud-based instruction in class. Due to the need for teaching improvements in basic English communication skills, we started involving our first-year students in a lot of reading-aloud activities. We display in this paper the typical methods of teaching in first-year English classes at Yatsushiro National College of Technology and the results of the survey about the students' attitude toward the reading-aloud-based teaching. The results show the students have a positive impression of the activity. The future direction of YNCT English teaching is also indicated in the last part of the paper.
