It has investigated whether boundary is psychologically real, by looking at how boundary in a verb influences sentence processing. In the experiment, participants read a sentence describing an action expressed by a lexically telic or atelic verb, then they read a sentence describing an action expressed by a VP that has a complement NP, which made the sentence ambiguous in telicity due to underspesification of a boundary in the entity. Participants were significantly faster to respond in the picture recognition task when they had telic prime sentences than when they were given atelic prime sentences. The results suggest that comprehenders realize boundedness of lexical aspects cognitively in sentence processing.
