This paper presents an implementation of WiBro/WiMAX RAS (Radio Access Station) that supports SA (Smart Antenna) functionality. The SA RAS consists of array antenna, FEU (Front End Unit) including TDD (Time Division Duplexing) switch and LNA (Low Noise Amplifier), UDC (Up/Down Converter) for frequency up/down as well as digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital conversion, CHU (Channel Card Unit) for base-band signal processing, BFM (Beam Forming Module) for computing the beam forming weight vector, and SPU (System Processing Unit) for controlling the entire RAS system and interfacing RAS with network. In this paper, we first summarize the WiBro/WiMAX wave form of which the commercial service has been launched in Korea. Then, the implementation of SA RAS is described in detail together with its performance.
