From the viewpoint of global wanning and energy dispute, a dispersed power generation systems have recently been introduced into many areas, and power supply systems for mobile devices have realized a ubiquitous electronics society. However, the development of micro-fuel cell systems has hastened and secures the operating time of the system and improved waste management of the used batteries from the environment load... Considering the characteristics of micro-fuel cells, a micro fuel cell system is proposed that employs a hybrid type DC-DC converter for stable utilization and under load variation. The proposed hybrid type DC-DC converter for a micro-fuel cell power supply system has a new strategy of an optimum operating point tracker to control the supply power for optimum output with respect to load variation, and a new output power compensator to store surplus energy in a lithium ion battery. The proposed circuit configuration is clarified, and good characteristics in load tracking and power compensation have been obtained. Although compactness is required for the hybrid type DC-DC converter to realize a ubiquitous electronics society, this system is applicable for emergency power generation and dispersed power generation when the capacity is increased.
