In recent years, there has been a growing trend to take global action and address global environmental issues by cutting energy consumption and reducing C0_2 emissions. And such trend is expected to intensify. In this circumstance, Tohoku Electric Power Co., Ltd developed gas turbines to make them more efficient and to increase their capacity for six years from 1989, because gas turbines are critical technology for thermal power generation. The project is called "Development of an Advanced Gas Turbine Project." Higashi-Niigata Thermal Power Station's Unit No.4-1 embodied the results of the project. The unit started commercial operation in July 1999. So far, the unit has played a stable role as a base power source. Higashi-Niigata Thermal Power Station, Unit No.4-2 was built upon operating experience of Unit No.4-1 in an effort to increase its reliability and efficiency. The unit is a plant whose every section is equipped with the latest technologies. The plant started commercial operation in December 20, 2006 after confirming that expected goals were attained. Since the full operation of Unit No.4-1 and Unit No.4-2 started, the high-efficient LNG fired combined cycle power plants have achieved almost 50% structure ratios of LNG fired power plants in our company. So the higher ratios will signify the effective use of energy because an increased number of the high-efficient LNG fired combained cycle power plant can generate power more effectively. Also CO_2 emissions will be reduced thanks to this.
