As a project to commemorate the 20th anniversary year of Fukuoka's efforts to preserve its cityscape, the Gokusho Floodlighting Walk was carried out with the participation of seven light manufacturers. Gokusho, located at the center of Fukuoka, is a traditional district with many temples. The aim of the project was to allow citizens to reappreciate the value of the district by dint of a beautiful night scenery. Each manufacturer lit up some of these temples using an original method. The project attracted 16000 people who came to enjoy the scenery. This article introduces the history of the temples, and the methods used to light them up.
