Short range order of molecular chains in the rotator phases of normal tricosane (C_<23>H_<48>) was studied by X-ray diffraction using single crystals. In order to clarify the molecular order between the nearest neighboring lateral chains, the diffuse scatterings on the first and the second layer planes were obtained by a Bouman camera. From the intensity of the diffuse scattering, an orientational order was analyzed which showed that both the skeletal planes of the neighboring two chains lay in the same plane containing their molecular axes. It will also be discussed that a correlation between these two molecules and their neighboring molecules still exists in the rotator phases. [DOI: 10.1143/JJAP.41.2139]
