A femtosecond ring optical parametric oscillator (OPO) operated at a repetition rate of 504MHz, which corresponds to a sixth-order harmonic repetition rate of the pump pulse, is demonstrated. To our knowledge, this is the highest repetition rate yet reported for an OPO in the femtosecond region. Chirped mirrors are designed to replace prism pairs for intracavity dispersion compensation. This approach paves the way for constructing a femtosecond OPO working at a 1-GHz or higher repetition rate. [DOI: 10.1143/JJAP.41.1365]
