A new time- and position-sensitive detector (PSD) was constructed by combining a microchannel plate (MCP) and a resistive-film anode with a readout pad based on the "modified backgammon technique with weighted capacitors" (MBWC). By using a resistive film, the free-flight length of the electron avalanche formed by the MCP is much shorter than in a conventional PSD with an MBWC anode. Consequently, the PSD is more compact, which presents several practical advantages. Temporal and positional resolution and imaging linearity were examined by measuring a mask image.
