The marked effect of cross-linking on the shape of loss-permittivity-versus-frequency curve of styrene-butyl acrylate copolymers at temperatures near and above the glass transition region reported by Glatz-Reichenbach et al. [Macromolecules 27 (1994) 1338] is explained by a simple theory assuming a distribution of free volume. From this result, the relation between the distribution of free volume and the level of cross-linking is clarified. Furthermore, the similarity between the effect of cross-linking and that of crystallization on the distribution of free volume in polymers is confirmed. [DOI: 10.1143/JJAP.41.737]
