In this paper, general consideration referring to some scientific points on the poor iron ore in Manchukuo is given and certain problems regarding it's utilization are dealt with. The successive increase in the demand is abruptly altering the status of the iron and steel works in Manchukuo. The present iron industry of that country is based on poor ore containing 35-40% Fe and 48-38% SiO_2, because of the scarcity of rich ore whilst there is an enormous amount of well-known poor ore. The nature of the Anshan type poor ore, which productive range is the greatest extending from Anshan to the northern part of Korea, is quite special in view of containing free SiO_2 as quartz and very fine crystals of magnetite and hematite which are intimately mixed in the banded structure with quartz. As. regards the utilization of the, ore, many problems are considered at present. The magnetic concentration and smelting of sintered ore are successfully under operation for many years at the Showa Steel Works, Anshan. A great expansions of the plant is now carrying out at the Anshan and Penhsihu Works.
