• In January 2003, the Law for Promotion of Nature Restoration was put into effect and various efforts in this regard have been made under the framework of the law since then. According to the law itself, it is revisable if necessary, after 5 years pass since its enforcement, based on the review of the implementation situations. This paper is written to describe the current situation of the major progress in nature restoration efforts of Japan and improvement in the implementation of the law, just now that almost 5 years have passed since the enforcement of the law. The future directions and policy options will also be discussed.
