The paper explains the significance of the preservation project of an endangered language (Kosraean language),which has been conducting continuously between Kosraean Department of Education and Shonan Institute of Technology.This article argues the role of this project is significant in terms of an important social practice of liberating pedagogy.In order to accomplish the objective, this paper is divided into three parts. First, the authors explain the currentsituation and traditional preservation methods about endangered languages as important background information of theproject. After illustrating background information of endangered languages, this article attempts to explain the natureof liberating pedagogy as the major approach of the current project. The paper examines the nature of liberating pedagogyand the ways to apply this approach to help preserve endangered languages in general. Then, the third part of thispaper briefly reviews a part of the preservation project of Kosraean language, which has been continuously doing betweenKosraean Department of Education and Shonan Institute of Technology. This final section begins the status ofKosraean language as an endangered language; then briefly explains the initial project to help preserve Kosraean language(i.e., Kosraean Picture Dictionary Project) in terms of the points which need attention and the actual productionprocess itself. Finally, this article points out the significance of the project as a social practice of liberating pedagogy.
