• Since 1995, FaxenLaboratoriet has been one of 28 Centres of Excellence partially funded by the Swedish government's Agency for Innovation Systems. It has specialized in research into fluid mechanics in the process industries, related in particular to paper technology, materials processing and electrochemical processes-three areas of strategic importance for Sweden. Over the ten-year period, around 30 industrial companies have participated in the Centre's research activities, at one time or another. This talk presents some of FaxenLaboratoriet's experiences of academic-industrial cooperation, demonstrating that, on the whole, it is certainly possible to do business with fluid mechanics.
