For lathe turning of stainless steel, this research was carried out for the purpose of the reduction of cutting fluid. When cutting fluid is not used, boundary wear of tool become a problem. Tool wear except boundary one, surface roughness and cutting force do not change whether cutting fluid is used or not. Though MQL machining is able to reduce boundary wear, the effect is lower than the case of using cutting fluid. When nitrogen is applied for the cutting area, boundary wear is made to decrease near value with MQL machining. By changing atmosphere in the cutting area, there is the possibility of dry cutting which dose not use cutting fluid.
