The purpose of this study was to determine the soluble immune complex in human serum and in gingival extracts with periodontitis and to compare between their concentration and clinical findings. The subjects consisted of 8 males and 12 females. Before periodontal surgery, the serum and clinical findings such as Gngival Index, pocket depth, and Plaque Index were recorded. And gingival tissue were obtained during the operation of periodontal surgery. Then gingival extracts was eluted from tissue with phosphate buffer saline. The soluble immune complex, IgG and albumin in serum and gingival extracts were measured by enzyme immunoassay with Clq binding test. The results were as follows: 1. The concentration of soluble immune complex in serum was 124±34.4μg/ml. 2. The concentration of soluble immune complex in gingival extracts was 3.15±0.50mg/g Dry Gingival Weight. 3. The soluble immune complex/albumin ratio in gingival extracts was higher than in serum (P<0.02). 4. After calibration, that contamination of the soluble immune complex or IgG were excepted from those of the gingival extracts, the corrected soluble immune complex/IgG ratio was observed to correlate with gingival pocket depth (P<0.05) 5. There were no correlation between weight of soluble immune complex in serum or gingival extracts and other clinical findings (P>0.05).
