Development of the Software for estimation of the degree of osteoporosis progress using image of Thoracic CT Screening

We have developed the algorithm that estimates the progress degree of vertebra osteoporosis. The algorithm is composed of calculating the average CT value, and the area of low density region inside cancellous bone of CT images. We compared the estimated result with the bone mineral density on 104 women who underwent both thoracic CT screening and the DXA method of the radius bone. As a result, the correlation of bone mineral density and the estimated progress degree by this algorithm showed moderate degree (r=-0.61, p<0.01). As a result, we have confirmed the availability of our algorithm.
