Material discrimination studies with dual energy were started over 25 years ago on CT. However the performance of CT has not be matured to show the clear clinical benefits due to lack of temporal resolution, spactial resolution, z-coverage and X-ray tube power. The limitation of gantry rotation speed, low kVp peak power and number of slice of CT scanner have been improved dramatically in these years. This technical innovation reenergizes Dual Energy CT imaging possibility as a more realistic clinical application. We developed Volume Dual Energy (VDE) scanning and imaging methods on the 64row volume CT and studied its effectiveness by using the special phantom with different materials.
