Automatic Extraction of Facial Feature Points from Orthogonal Color Images for Surgical Planning

In this paper we have presented a fully automatic algorithm based on Gaussian mixture model for segmentation and extraction of facial color skin. Simultaneously, we correct the image shadows from varying illumination. The algorithm starts by automatic localization of facial features from orthogonal images. This algorithm will be able to determine accurate contour of facial color skin from two orthogonal views. By using luminance and chrominance components of YCbCr color space, the presented algorithm computes facial organs map such as eyes, mouth and nose. We then combine the edge information and resulted maps to obtain the accurate feature contours.
