This is a case report of the personality change of a convicted male parenticide through the correctional counseling in prison. The parenticide, who killed his father, was diagnosed as "schizophrenia" in the psychiatric examination at the period of trial. He was, however, judged as "partially criminally responsible" and sentenced to imprisonment. He took the correctional counseling provided by the author, a voluntary prison counselor, and his personality change was assessed before and after the counseling by the use of the Rorschach Test. Findings were: (1) no. of response increased from 10 to 13; (2) no. of popular response (P) increased from none to four; (3) determinant range expanded from one (F) to eight (F, FC, FC', Fc, KF, M, FM, m); (4) content range (CR) expanded from six to ten; (5) no. of human movement response (M) increased from none to three, and percentage of human response (H%) went up from 0% to 31%; and, (6) positive form level (F+%) went up from 40% to 100%. It was interpreted that these findings indicated that his personality shifted in a favorable direction and that his ego functioning level was elevated considerably. Also discussed was the usefulness of the Rorschach Test as a tool to assess the personality change of offenders through the correctional treatment in prison.
