Living organisms may sense gravity by converting mechanical load into biological signaling. The cellular and molecular mechanisms of the conversion, however, are not clear. Studying cellular responses against mechanical stimulations requires unique methods, since the conventional culture technique has been developed primarily for biochemical analyses. Applying mechanical load onto cells often induces changes in culture conditions, and the cause of the observed response may hardly distinguishable. By utilizing microgravity conditions and techniques to controlling culture conditions strictly, new methods suitable for analyzing mechanoreceptors will be established.
