128 Newly-developed Active Noise Absorption Control Technology for High Speed Fan Noise Reduction(O.S.5 Advanced Technology for Usage of Sound and Vibration II)

The paper describes about a newly-developed active noise absorption control (AAC) technology I for high speed fan noise reduction and proof test results of the technology I performance. The AAC technology I was contrived and developed as a fan noise reduction part of active aircraft engine noise control technology. It comprises a simple control and a plain device in comparison with the active noise control technology of acoustic cancellation, and can actively absorb fan tones and broadband noise together in duct propagation process and achieve larger overall fan noise reduction, over a wide fan speed range, by actively controlling the reactance part of acoustic impedance of active duct liners with mobile reflective plates and acoustic chambers. For actual proof of the AAC technology I performance, active fan noise absorption control duct liner I was made on trial basis and was examined using a high speed fan test facility. The test result clarifies that the active duct liner I could reduce fan noise larger than O. A. SPL 10dB (A), including low frequency fan noise and fundamental B.P.F. tone and harmonics of 18dB at maximum. In response to fan speed change from 1000rpm to 6000rpm, the active duct liner I could achieve the large peak frequency shift and peak level increase in the acoustic absorption spectra, by controlling the reflective plate movement and could reduce fan noise larger than O.A. SPL 8dB (A) over the fan speed range. The AAC technology I is also available in wide fields of turbo-machinery noise reduction.
