Vibration energy flow expressed by structural intensity can be measured by means of the advanced measurement technique. Although there are lots of studies about the structural intensity, the structural intensity is used only as a probe into the source of vibration. In this study, the useful possibility of the structural intensity is investigated. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the possibility of the identification of the changed thickness of the one-dimensional beam by the vibration energy flow analysis. The numerical analysis is used to obtain the vibration energy flow. In this numerical analysis, the structural intensity is calculated by using the finite element method and the finite difference method. As a result, it is possible to identify the thickness of the beam with the suddenly changed cross-section by using the structural intensity.
